Love Letters

A stay-at-home Mom with one rambunctious toddler. I read far too much and do too little of anything else.

Catch the Fever

"Hope strengthens. Fear kills."

I stayed up late last night finishing my annual, Christmas vacation reread of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. I heart Mac and Barrons. So much. In fact, I would bet a batch of chocolate chip cookies that Barrons is the jerkiest, yet most loved hero out there. And he has the best lines. The kind that make me melt no matter how many times I read them. Le sigh. Should such a man exist in real life, I'm not sure how we'd all survive.

Goodbye, my dear sweet Barrons. I bid you adieu until July and the release of BURNED.

(FINALLY!!)

Through the Ever Night

Through the Ever Night - Veronica Rossi LOVED

Saving Dallas (Saving Dallas, #1)

Saving Dallas - Kim Jones I bought this on a whim, because of that cover. Wouldn't you? I balked a little at the price, since $4.88 seems steep for a self pub that isn't well known. However, I was intrigued with the premise and I went ahead and bought it anyway.

This wasn't terrible. There were several editing issues, which makes me think the author didn't pay for someone to look at it. Several instances where the author confused "wondering" and "wandering." Yikes. At that price point, I want a polished, finished novel and this wasn't it.

What bothers me the most is that I felt cheated by the ending. There were some MAJOR plot holes that the author didn't resolve in this book. There were some issues with a rival gang which involved Dallas, and the author never told us what they were. It's a series, according to info in the back of the book, but the author still didn't give me any answers. I'm all about conflict and suspense, but in this case we get NOTHING. I read through the whole thing, only to get to the end and absolutely NOTHING has happened. What I'm told at the beginning of the story is what I still know at the end. Completely frustrating. I feel tricked. Juped. Like all the author wanted to do was get me to the end of the book so I could buy the next at another ridiculously outrageous price.

Also, this was all very insta-love. And the MC's don't know anything about each other either! If done well, the insta-love can make sense, but in this case it really didn't. It was too easy. The relationship was too easy. She hopped on board with the MC lifestyle too easily. Needed more tension. More conflict.

Great premise, hot cover model but unfortunately, it failed to deliver. Admittedly, if it'd been .99 I probably wouldn't be so outraged. But at almost $5, I didn't get my money's worth.

Own the Wind (Chaos, #1)

Own the Wind - Kristen Ashley After reading this, I think I've decided that I prefer the self-published version of KA. I loved Shy and Tabby, and I loved their story. I was left wanting.. more, I guess. Maybe it's just because I came into this book right off her Colorado Mtn series, which I believe are all over 500 pages. Each of the couples in that book were their own individual people outside of the relationship. KA went into depth about buying sheets, making crafts, building homes together, the town and the family, etc. Didn't get that in Own the Wind. I would have loved more detail about Tabby's job. Maybe seen her hang out with her girl friends.

It was just all about Shy and Tabby. Which is fine, in a way, and I enjoyed it. But I read KA I want to get lost in 500+ pages over over the top heroes and the dirty, gritty life her characters experienced. Wish I had that with Shy and Tabby.

Wait for You (Wait for You, #1)

Wait for You - Jennifer L. Armentrout, J. Lynn LOVED! Heavens, Cam was delicious. JLA sure does know her way around a sexy hero. ;-)

Last Night's Scandal

Last Night's Scandal - Loretta Chase Hilarious dialogue in this one. The fights between Olivia and Lisle cracked me up.

Loved this one!

Frigid

Frigid - J Lynn This was all right. Wasn't my favorite out of everything she's written, but it was still enjoyable to read. There wasn't any real conflict, I thought. At least not anything that could be overcome by actually talking to each other instead of assuming random crap that isn't true. And the two MC's were only okay. They didn't make me fall in love with them, and I only had a passing interest in their HEA.

Only an okay read for me, I'm afraid.

Escorted

Escorted - Claire Kent Really good. I loved Ander's character, but was sort of ambivalent about Lori. Definitely an enjoyable read though!

Painted Faces

Painted Faces - L.H. Cosway LOVED!! I truly, truly loved this book. Nicholas was just so deliciously tortured, and I admit I teared up through a good portion of the book. Ahem.

Highly recommend!

Reaper's Property

Reaper's Property - Joanna Wylde Didn't like this one as much as Motorcycle Man. Not enough page time devoted to the couple being happy. Also, the way the author set up the beginning annoyed the crap out of me. All that back and forth crap.. yuck. Just wanted her to get to the point already.

I will say though, the editing in this book was much tighter. If only Motorcycle Man was put into the hands of someone who knew what they were doing...

And despite all of that, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I love the MC world that Wylde created and can't wait to get back to it. It's too bad the couple didn't really work for me this time around.

By Private Invitation (A Salon Games Novel)

By Private Invitation - Stephanie Julian What a good book to start the year off with! Loved this one, very sexy.

Hopeless (Hopeless, #1)

Hopeless - Colleen Hoover This book WRECKED me. In a good way of course, but still. About 80% in I was a sobbing, snotty mess. Awesome, awesome book. Definitely going on my favorites list for the year!

Crimson Frost (Mythos Academy Novels)

Crimson Frost - Jennifer Estep This series is so agonizing.. In a good way, of course, but still. Will Gwen ever defeat Loki? And Logan.. SOB.

Full review to come.

Opal (A Lux Novel)

Opal - Jennifer L. Armentrout Holy effin' $%@!. The ending is.. TORTUROUS. And now I have to effin' wait to find out what happens next. GAH!!!

Full review to come.

Elixir: A Covenant Novella

Elixir - Jennifer L. Armentrout SOB! JLA is determined to rip my heart out with this series. Hopefully she'll put it all back together in the end. ;-)

Lord's Fall (A Novel of the Elder Races)

Lord's Fall - Thea Harrison Seriously, Dragos and Pia are the best couple of the whole series. LOVE them. And the ending.. so sweet!
